Latina learns to code: HTML5, CSS & JavaScript

Sara Inés Calderón | August 25, 2014 | 12:57 pm
I’ve been dreaming in JavaScript for the past few weeks. Part of my training with Sabio includes “pre-work” by taking online classes in HTML, CSS and Javascript (you can take the classes yourself here). And just about the time when I wonder whether or not I’m getting it, I find myself putting my friends and errands into JavaScript functions in my dreams. Some of my friends have asked me about what coding is “like” so my impressions are as follows. HTML and CSS are cool because they are easy to learn, understand and see in action.… more

Mexican entrepreneur’s BioVideo combines babies, tech

Sara Inés Calderón | August 24, 2014 | 11:35 pm
Carlos Villaseñor is a man with a vision. And when it comes to BioVideo — the company he founded in Monterrey, Mexico and then subsequently moved to San Antonio, Texas — that vision is one of growth. Already the company is growing. Whether you count the number of hospitals in which parents are able to receive a complimentary and professionally edited video of their child’s birth, or the number of features available to parents who download the BioVideo mobile app, or the number of cities outside of Texas (such as New York, Los Angeles, or Chicago) where BioVideos will become available in the near future, BioVideo is certainly growing.… more

10 reasons why I’m learning to code

Sara Inés Calderón | July 21, 2014 | 3:42 pm
I’m going to become a web developer. Or learn to code, whichever euphemism you prefer, that’s what I’ll be doing as part of Sabio’s cohort from October to December. It’ll be an interesting experience, and as my dad pointed out, it’s always good to have access to more education. I’ll be documenting it here on Más Wired, so feel free to reach out with any questions or comments here on the site or even better on Twitter: @MasWired or @SaraChicaD. So, since I’ll be walking the walk, I wanted to share the reasons why I think it’s important for me to take this step.… more
